R79

The Apostle John’s vision of the end:

“A great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.  They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.  And they cried out in a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:9-10)

A church with great diversity; united by an even greater love for Jesus.  A church composed of all ages devoted to making and maturing disciples from every walk of life.  A church that boldly and fearlessly reaches out to all with the love of Jesus.  R79

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Who is CLCC?

The Clear Lake Church of Christ is part of a fellowship of churches known as Churches of Christ, with roots going back to the 18th century Stone/Campbell Unity Movement.  Our forefathers taught us to not be content with religious traditions we had received from others but to continually go back to the Scriptures to determine our beliefs and practices.  Because of this we take Bible study seriously and are continually growing in our understanding of God’s will for us today.

Elders Are Shepherds Among the People

sheep-with-shepherd

“To the elders among you,….  Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them–not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve, not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:1-3)

Shepherds need to be scattered all over the workings of the church: worship assemblies, Bible classes, Connection Groups, service ministries, prayer gatherings, etc…  It is among the people that shepherds fulfill their calling:

  • Watching over the flock (1 Pet. 5:2, Acts 20:28)
  • Being an example of how to live the Christian life: priorities, resisting Mammon, generosity, service, and love (1 Pet. 5:3; 1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9)
  • Knowing people by name and being known by people (John 10:3-5, 14-15)
  • Taking care of those weak in faith, spiritually sick, injured by fellow members or wounded by bad churches experiences of the past (Ezk. 34:2-4, 16)
  • Searching for the lost members (Ezk. 34:11-12, Matt. 18:12-14; Lk 15:3-7)
  • Feeding the flock (Ezk 34:14; 1 Tim. 3:17)
  • Protecting the flock from false teaching; both legalism (binding where God has not bound) and libertarianism (no rules, anything goes).  Any teaching that minimizes the person and work of Jesus.  Any teaching that is divisive and harmful. (Acts 20:29-31; Titus 1:9)
  • “Manage God’s household”.  Be informed about how the work is being done and provide needed encouragement, correction or instruction. (Titus 1:7)

Matters for Prayer

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:12-14)
