“I had been living in Webster for about five months, attending another congregation, when I drove down El Dorado Blvd and saw the Clear Lake Church of Christ sign. I visited the very next Sunday . . . and have been here ever since.” That was in 1986. Twenty-one years later, Donna Stone still calls CLCC her home and the people here her family. “When you think about it, I’ve been a member of this church family longer than any other in my life.”
Donna feels God has called her to work with teenagers, which she does both by profession at Clear Brook High School and by passion here at Clear Lake. For most of her 21 years at CLCC, Donna has been a consistent volunteer with the Youth Ministry, spending every summer since 1987 working and serving with the youth of our church, as well as teaching high school and junior high Bible classes year round. Additionally, Donna taught Wednesday night Bible classes for 3rd and 4th graders for many years before the inception of TeamKID. Another area she has loved being involved in has been Vacation Bible School, for many years serving as director. In January 2006, Donna became “officially on staff” and served as interim/part-time youth minister until the recent hiring of Jeremy Glover.
Working in partnership with Jeremy, Donna says, is a wonderful blessing. “We share the same passion for teenagers and see the same great potential in them. I am so thankful that God sent Jeremy and Kendal to our family. They fit right in!” Someone once asked Donna if she ever gets burned out working with teens practically seven days a week. “Never! Oh, I get tired, but never burned out. How can you burn out of a passion God has blessed you with?” Well said. Besides, she has to stay around to keep writing those senior songs each year that “honor” the seniors she has watched grow up.
