News and Notes
September 5, 2008 -

New Ladies’ Class: Today, we will begin a new class entitled Women Building Relationships through the Scripture.  Each Sunday, a different member of the class will read one of her favorite scriptures and tell the class what that scripture means to her, what it says to her about God, about Christ, and how it is applicable to her today.  The topic scripture will be discussed by the group followed by sharing time and prayer. Please join us if you are not already in a class.

Eagle Scout Project: Today is the last day to contribute toward David Wisniewski's Eagle Rank project "Operation Paperback."  The books will go to our fighting troops overseas as well as to hospitalized personnel.  You can donate hardback or paperback books at the collection tables. Regulations prohibit sexually explicit or extensively religious books but the following genres are especially requested: Action; Bestsellers; Biographies/Memoirs; Fantasy; History; Horror; Mystery; Science Fiction; or True Crime.  No Romance novels, please!

Monetary donations are also warmly accepted to cover shipping expenses.

Prayer Retreat: A congregational prayer retreat will be held on Saturday, September 13, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the church building. A light dinner will be provided. Please sign up at the welcome center.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF NEWBORN TO 5TH GRADE CHILDREN: In order to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children, a new safety procedure for Bible classes began today.  Parents must 1) escort their child to his or her classroom, 2) complete the sign in/sign out sheet, 3) take a token (one per child) and record the token number on the sheet.  Parents will also be required to pick their child up at his or her classroom and present the token to the teacher.  The teacher will then be responsible for verifying that the token numbers match.  We ask that you please be patient during this time.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Men’s Lunch: All men are invited for good food and fellowship on Friday, September 12, at 11:30 a.m. at El Dorado Mexican Restaurant. Contact David Layman or the church office to reserve a seat.

Congregational Meeting: Please make plans to attend our congregational meeting scheduled for Sunday, September 14. The meeting will be held during the Bible class hour and will start promptly at 9:15 a.m.   Again, please try to attend this very important meeting.

COA—”Bay Area” Tutoring will be held on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. beginning September 18. Volunteers are needed to befriend kids and help with homework 1-1/2 hours a week, or provide snacks. Pick up an information sheet and sign up to help at the welcome center.

New Beginner’s Class: Byron Fike will be teaching a class for those who want to learn the central message of the Bible. This twelve week study will begin this evening from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in room 15. Childcare will be provided if you contact Byron in advance.
