Hope for the Broken

lljThe perfect heart symbol too often represents the romantic love of the poets which has become the love of cheap fiction novels and cheesy romantic movies.  Not only is that concept of love unrealistic; it feeds our deep desire to be truly loved with a diet of mind popcorn.  I love popcorn but if that is the staple of your diet you will always be woefully undernourished!  In the same way, our culture is continually searching for true love and and wondering why the love they find never truly satisfies.

The love of Jesus is not the kind of love that makes one’s heart thump faster.  Rather, it is the love that feeds one’s soul and nourishes one’s spirit.  It is the love that connects us to our Creator and changes us from  being self-absorbed to being focused on the needs of others.  The love of Jesus fills us up so that we no longer need to use people to get our needs met.  We can love others because we have been fully and completely loved ourselves.

The love of God expressed through Jesus is a perfect love but our logo shows the messiness of God’s perfect love meeting our imperfections.  Love is not always pretty, as we will see as our series continues.  But, love always does what is best for the one being loved.  So drink deeply of the living water, allowing it to wash over you and through you and all around you.  Focus your eyes on Jesus and allow yourself to be immersed in his love.
