Ministry of the Towel

ministry of the towelJesus washing feet is such a wonderful picture of servanthood.  As I said in the sermon, the primary reason he washed feet was because their feet were dirty.  It was a real service that met a real need.  That was why he later said it was an example for them to follow.  He didn’t wash feet to be an example; he washed feet because they needed to be washed.  Serving real needs is the example he says we are blessed when we follow.

Moving “outward” in service to others is not performing acts of service; it is becoming a servant.  Being a servant is our identity as we follow the Master.  Acts of service are simply what servants do!

This Sunday I highlighted some categories of service that are mostly done by individuals.  Next Sunday, we will hear from some members who are doing significant work as part of ministry teams that have formed in our church.  The ministry of the towel is both individual and corporate.  We are servants who have the wonderful opportunity to work along side others servants performing acts of ministry for the glory of our great God and king.  He demonstrated his great love by serving us.
