Living Above the Tangled Web

pinochioIntegrity is the word that has been uppermost in my mind all week as I prepared this sermon.  Living above the tangled web of deceit is not an easy task.  It seems to be such a little thing to add details to a story to make oneself appear better than one is, or to bend and stretch the truth to avoid consequences.  “Everyone is doing it” makes it more difficult and becomes an easy excuse to join the crowd and no longer be distinctive like salt or shine like a light in the darkness.

However, when I think of the people I greatly respect in life they are the ones who do stand above the crowd.  Not in a prideful or arrogant manner; but their integrity makes them appear to stand head and shoulders above the rest.  Lord, make me a man of my word so that my yes means yes and my no means no.  Amen.
