Sharing Life

interconnectedHow did churches change from being the interconnected family of God (as described in Acts 2:42) to the more isolationist model where we sit together in church but don’t share life with one another?  Maybe that’s the wrong question.  I don’t think we have to understand how it happened to work toward building the kind of relationships that enable us to enter into one another’s life.  What are the steps one needs to take to grow in biblical fellowship with fellow Christians?  Now, that’s a much better question.

First, one must see the need.  That was one purpose of the sermon this morning.  It’s not enough to just recognize that Jesus loves me, the next step is to “love one another” (John 13:34-35).

Second, one must create or take advantage of opportunities to connect with people in meaningful ways that allow us to really grow to know one another.  That is why we are re-creating Story Groups.

Third, one must make the commitment to truly invest the necessary time and transparency required.  I heard from a schoolteacher that being in a weekly story group last year required a genuine sacrifice.  However, they quickly added that it was well worth the effort.

Soon everyone will be given the opportunity to sign up for the re-organized Story Groups.  Right now, however, we need some individuals to agree to be facilitators or hosts.  The Story Group committee is dedicated to providing our facilitators and hosts with what they need to do their job.  First, however, we need you to indicate your willingness to serve.  Contact me if you want to sign up or to get more information.

I’m looking forward to these! I guess there will be groups based on availability, geography, etc.

And to confirm, Sandra’s plantains were incredible. And empanadas. Really everything.
