Motivation for Doing Good Works

Here’s the picture that technical difficulties kept me from showing this morning. Now that is a fish who is completely in his element! I was talking with a visitor after the services about “doing good” to others. He made the remark that when he does good things for others it makes him feel good. That is not surprising since, as we saw from Ephesians 2:10, we were made to do good works. When we live the way we were made to live it just feels right. We were made to live a life characterized by doing good.

By the way, someone suggested that the reason we had video problems this morning was bad karma. Hmmmmmm. (To understand the humor behind this comment, please listen to the sermon at

This is something that we have discussed a few times in class. Can there ever be true altruism? Can a human ever do something without expecting (consciously or subconsciously) something in return? My primary response is one that is not typically accepted at the scholarly level, look at the life of a Jewish man named Jesus, the one they called the Christ.

Christ motivated! Giving glory to God-the reason God created us. His light WILL shine through us. The blessings from Him are like the “icing on the cake”, and we may not see some of these blessings until we are in Heaven with Him! The trials and tribulations are the challenges to BE Christ motivated.
I have visited numerous times and have never experienced self motivation from any member. You have a very Christ loving church and I am truly blest every time I visit family (and I feel like family when I am here).
    God Bless!
